| Tuesday 22nd September 2009 | Small Animal Magnetic Resonance Imaging;
Where are we now? Gerard te Lintelo CertSAS MRCVS, Wear Referrals Magnetic resonance imaging was the greatest invention in diagnostic medicine since Wilhelm Röntgen discovered electromagnetic radiation in 1895. MR imaging came into clinical utility in human medicine in the mid-1980s. However, just over the last few years MR imaging has become an accepted part of veterinary practice. It is now the modality of choice for veterinary neurologists for imaging the brain and spinal cord. During this meeting we will discuss some of the basic principles of MR imaging and the indications for its use in small animal practice. This will be done using examples of clinical cases we have seen over the last three years at Wear Referrals in the subjects of neurology, orthopaedics, oncology and ENT disease. Gerard te Lintelo graduated from Utrecht University (The Netherlands) in 1997. After having worked for two years in a mixed practice in The Netherlands, Gerard moved to the UK and worked for six years in a dedicated small animal practice in Oxfordshire. He obtained the Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in September 2004 and set up Wear Referrals in July 2005 where he has been using MR imaging since 2006. His special interests include orthopaedic problems in the growing young dog, spinal cord and magnetic resonance imaging. The meeting is kindly sponsored by Processing Imaging Equipment Services Ltd. Venue: Croft Referrals, Northumberland Business Park West, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 7RH. Time: 7.30 for 8.00pm. |
